On a mission for Chicken and Waffles, found a review for this restaurant. They no longer had this on the menu, so we looked for something quick, as we were passing through. Couldn't resist the pimento cheese and Louisiana sausage appetizer, an odd combo, but really good. Fried pickles were great. Crab cake/salad awesome. We were passing through Vicksburg and stopped at their visitor center to get ideas of what to see and where to eat in Vicksburg. A young southern belle in a pink hoop skirted dress suggested Walnut Hill Restaurant. The food was authentic southern cooking. Fresh flaky catfish fried in corn meal served with vegetables seasoned to perfection did not disappoint us. Walnut Hill has charm and great food. Don't miss it if you are in Vicksburg.
The food, whether on the "pitch 'til you win" round table or served as plate lunches, is superb. The service is quick and the wait staff polite and efficient.
A visit to Walnut Hills Restaurant in Vicksburg, Mississippi, is a fabulous experience. As well as having the best Southern cuisine in the South, it is located in an historic 1880s house and the atmosphere is remarkable. The food is meats and vegetables prepared as unique dishes reflecting Southern Plantation Cuisine. Their "Businessman's Blue Plate Special Lunch" is fantastic and popular with most Vicksburgers.
