A lot of plants that come from these box office stores are infested with spider mites or other plant pests- I'm not sure if the employees that work in the garden center are familiar with plants but I wouldn't be surprised if they'd never kept a plant alive in their life. Over watering or under watering is usually what I see going into the walmart garden centers.
