I went in to get the steering on my Chevy Express van looked at. I told them it has some play in it, and I wanted to get that fixed. they test drove it and told me I needed a new gear box, upper ball joints, and to pack the bearings. I said ok. $1600 later, I picked up my van just to have no change in the steering.
