Sunday, May 18th, 2025 Update: After asking numerous times for the $35K+ that is owed back to me due to breach of contract, negligence, and misrepresentation - Mr. Winkels has not resolved this conflict. Almost $60,000 dollars in subcontractors have also not been paid. Shingles are already falling off - and I was told it was going to be fixed. It has been 2 weeks. This guy tries to squeeze people out of their money. My advice would be do not do business with Jim
Working with Jim Winkels has been one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. He is dishonest, deceptive, and has absolutely no respect for timelines or his clients money. He has multiple lawsuits against him, and it’s no surprise why he takes money up front and then either delays endlessly or fails to complete the work altogether. He makes promises he doesn’t keep and leaves you chasing him down while your project sits unfinished. Probably the worst builder in Minnesota still in business. I would avoid doing any business with Jim. I entered into an agreement with Vivid Homes / Waconia Homes in 2024 and it has taken him over a year to build a 2700 sq ft house. He will give you numerous promises and timelines (I have received 4 separate close dates, and can never get a clear timeline on anything) but can't deliver on any of them - then usually blames the subcontractors schedules or people "not getting back to him" If you don't believe me look at Kaeding... read more
