A literal lifesaver! My son, and consequently the family, struggled massively in the mainstream. But VSV has been a game changer. Learning without schooling. No scratchy uniforms. No late slips. No unreasonably-timed (10 minutes, really?) lunches, no fear of having to confront bullies. Flexible schedules. Tailored workload. Inclusivity for what it truly is. Great community. Unlike other reviews, Bridie Hamilton was the kindest and compassionate teacher I have ever encountered. I had a health issue emerge this year, and she not only supported me through it but also helped me keep up with school by having weekly 1-on-1 catch-ups. She never once made me feel like I was dumb or cheating, and always helped me to understand tasks regardless of how long it took. I cannot imagine her being rude or 'rigid' as she is one of the teachers who helped me through year 12 this year.
We've had some ups and downs with VSV, but once you get communication between parents, students, teachers, and care team working well you can have some incredible results. There are some amazing people working there to make it an inclusive place for learning and some great opportunities for regular online social clubs and also in person meet ups, excursions and camps.
(i am on a throwaway account for privacy) i have so many issues with this school. i want to start off by talking about how inflexible this school is. for a school that brags about their flexibility, i have seen none whatsoever. teachers are extremely strict with work and when it needs to be submitted, if you are mentally ill and struggling with workload and doing school in general they absolutely will not accommodate to that and you will be stuck having panic attacks about everything you have to do. i have multiple diagnoses... read more
