UVA Health has a reputation for having some of the best facilities in the state and I have a rare bone condition that effects 1 in 50,000 people. I asked asked Dr. Perumal's team if he was familiar with the condition and then followed up with him in-person to confirm he was familiar with the condition prior to surgery. He said he was, but he was not. My wife was seen by Dr Perumal as a three day follow up from the ER for a broken foot. She was told they don't prescribe pain medicine and that she would have to go to her primary care of she needed something. This is a university hospital orthopedic surgeon with a patient with a broken bone and he was either unable or unwilling to give proper treatment. If this is UVA policy, then they should all hang their heads in shame.

Dr Perumal is a kind, knowledgeable and excellent surgeon. He kept me apprised of my surgeries and he and his team were excellent in my care. I’m thankful to all for making me walk again.
