Very patient! Took time to listen and calmed my fears.
Dr. Van Manen causes more harm than good and I would avoid him like the plague. I went to him 5 yrs ago after being released from rehab with a sciatic nerve injury, I feared I had torn the Achilles tendon in my left foot when I squatted to pick up something. He said that I needed arthroscopic surgery on my ankle and that after 24 hours I would not need care. I agreed to the surgery not knowing that the sciatic nerve ran from your rear to your toes. However, he knew that I had had a sciatic nerve injury and should have avoide... read more
We could not be more pleased with our experience with Dr. Van Manen during our daughter's ankle injury. He walked us through the entire process professionally and demonstrated strong knowledge of her autism spectrum disorder, which has not always been our experience with doctors. He is highly recommended by our family.
I am not a fan of doctors, but Dr. Van Manen spent time to answer all of my questions. He was able to put me at ease prior to surgery. I would recommend him to my family and friends if an issue where to arise. He is straight forward and I never had to figure out what he was trying to explain. I liked that he is knowledgeable but didn't talk to me like I should know all of the technical terms. If I ever needed help in the future I would go to him first.
Stay away from this guy. He doesn't listen, yet thinks he knows it all. Does not respond
I generally hate doctors. My experience with Dr. Van Manen was excellent. Arthritis in the ankle. He didn't push surgery or cortisone shot but the shot has given me the first relief in months. He was smart and personable. My experience was a good one.
He cost me my running scholarship. He told me there were no other options but to remove my neuroma. He said I could walk on it the week after surgery. When I went back to him 6 months later for the same pain and excessive scar tissue, he said there was nothing he could do for me. I went to another doctor who said he never should have done surgery- there are shots of alcohol to kill the nerve. I had those and now can run for short periods of time. I will have to have another surgery to repair his mistakes. I've never hated so... read more
Dr. Van Manen treated my neuroma pain seriously after I suffered with it for 20 years. Dr V. Explained to me that surgery was an option if I decided I didn't want to live with the pain anymore, explaining that it is the patient often that needs to decide for themselves what is too much pain to live with. His staff was professional and courteous. Each visit I was seen within 15 minutes of my appointment time. Now I I can wear shoes I gave up on years ago, run a 10k without removing my right shoe for the last mile and thorough... read more
I've never been more displeased with a doctor in my life. I came in with a very small stress fracture in my fibular sesamoid bone.I was told by Van Manen that "stress fractures never heal" and that the only option was to get the bone surgically removed (an invasive surgery with lasting negative effects that is really only necessary if the bone non-unionizes.I was not put in a walking boot for my stress fracture. Because I took Van Manen's word, I walked around on my stress fracture for two more months. It is now a full on br... read more
