I love living here - the proximity to downtown Durham, the sky lounge view of the Bulls stadium, the gym, sauna, steam room, pool, pool tables, and the friendly staff at the front desk (shoutout Ondia!!!). Maintenance is fast and the neighbors are friendly. Parking is never an issue. Staff does a good job of building a community.
Van Alen has been an around amazing place to live. Ashli and Breana were so responsive and helpful during the leasing process. With both going above and beyond to answer any questions we had. On top of that the concierge team have been great for answering general questions and handling packages.
I have been a resident of Van Alen for less than a year, but I see myself staying as long as possible. The units are absolutely beautiful and the staff here is amazing. The entire leasing team supports me, as well as the always ready concierge and maintenance crews. Not one team member lacks knowledge and compassion for the residents. I recently moved here and Ashli was so helpful throughout the leasing application process! She gave us a thorough tour, answered all our questions, and was always friendly. Breana on the leasing team was also amazing. Additionally, the concierge team has been very helpful with all the packages we’ve been ordering to the apartment since moving.
Van Alen is a nice place to live overall and the apartments and amenities are nice. But the rent tends to be way over the market rate for the area so you have to be able to afford it. Its age is definitely starting to show with things like doors and locks being consistently broken. If they were to make rent more reasonable and be more on top of some of the maintenance needs then I’d certainly recommend it as a place to live.
