I had a gen 1 for several years and paid for a couple of the major updates. Then I upgraded to gen 2 shortly after it's release. I've never had any issues with c/s ever like as others seem to have had. (Although Covid was a weird time for c/s for EVERYONE.) I have ordered parts (concealed display, then tech display, replacement cups, cables, fasteners, etc. Never had any issues. I can't seem to give up my V1G2. I just spent $600+ on a new V1G2 radar detector and had a couple of questions on configuration. In total, I sent 2 emails, filled out a web form and tried calling 2 times. That’s 5 inquiries over a week or so, and I have received ZERO response. It is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. If I have a problem down the... read more

I attempted to install a routine software update for my detector, but it locked up during the update process. When I contacted Valentine Research, I was told this is something that can happen and that I would need to send the unit back to them—along with a $50 handling fee—to restore it. Paying $50 just because a software update failed is disappointing enough, but I also had to pay to ship the detector to Valentine Research. I now own a different detector, and after this experience, I like it much better.

Since 2005 I've owned my V1, before I even had a driver's license if you will... Still works to this day and has saved me thousands of dollars. The only times I've had tickets it's when it was off or not in the vehicle, so it's on me. These devices are rugged and well made, you can't beat the arrows. Sure, there's other brands with other scanning technologies, but V1 is the OG of the radar game, the sound is distinct and doesn't require a PhD to operate. I don't own a Gen2, but it's worth it and if you run the app it's a phe... read more
