I saw Dr. Koppert for a 45 year old root canal that had become infected and pushed the crown off. He determined the root was fractured which had led to decay and infection making reinsertion of the crown unviable and extraction necessary. It would be a complicated extraction because the root was below gum line and the decay had weakened what root remained.
