Find Another Vacuum Repairman!!!
I gave 1 star because it won't let me put 0 stars.
I took my vacuum the Vacuum Doctor in Dec '09 / Jan '10 timeframe due to a belt problem. When the guy (I think he is one of the owners) opened the housing, we saw there was a broken piece & he told me it needed a new housing that would be very expensive but he could get a used one for less. I said OK to the used one. The time had past that he told me it would be ready for pick up, so I called to check the status. He told me the supplier had sent the wrong housing & he was waiting for the correct one to arrive. A few days later he called that it was ready, I went & paid him around $80-$100 (don't remember exact amount), took my vacuum home.
I took it in on July 2 or 3 due to a belt issue, again! The same guy helped me & when we opened the housing I was shocked to see that it was the ORIGINAL BROKEN HOUSING UNIT he claimed to have replaced a few months earlier! I questioned him on the fact that he had told me he replaced the housing a few months earlier but he denied it was the housing & claimed he replaced some other part. He picked up super glue to glue a broken piece back on the housing. The glue he picked up didn't work so he put it back on the shelf & went to look for more glue. As he was leaving, I thought I saw a screw roll off the shelf & into the open vacuum head. He glued the broken piece back on, put the housing back together & as he handed it to me, I heard the rattle of the screw! I told him there was something in there & shook it so it rattled. He told me it was just a piece of the housing broken off & to bring it back after the holiday. He wouldn't even open it back up to look! I was so convinced that I saw the screw fall inside that I went to the hardware store, bought the special tool need for the housing screws & opened it when I got home. Sure enough - THERE WAS THE SCREW! I also fixed the problem that was causing the belt to always slide off - THE BELT MOTOR WASN'T SECURED TO THE HOUSING OR ANYTHING! So it would move around causing the belt to slide off all the time!
