I signed a business liability policy with them. Paid them nearly half of the premium. Two months into the policy they tell me they are cancelling my policy because they went to my website and saw that we do demolition (we are flooring company and we will rip out the existing floors - which we call demolition), and we sub out hardwood refinishing. These guys are scams. They do not care about small business owners. Been a loyal 30+ year customer who have never filed a claim. We recently had a roof damage due to rain and windstorm. Took them 2 months to come back with a write-up, with us constantly calling and emailing them... only for them to give us 20% of actual repair costs. We tried to plead our case, but they refused to listen.
Utica cancelled my home owners insurance but did me a huge favor. They were charging me approx. $3000 per year for many years (I never filed a claim). Their inspectors came to house and determined that my 10-yr. old mastiff rescue was a 'pit bull'. Never asked for its breed or papers, just decided that it was a pit bull and sent a non-renewal. We searched and found other policies for same coverage for 1/2 the cost or less. Thanks Utica! (you morons)
