A WORLD CLASS MUSEUM – We recently had the opportunity to spend time in several of Chicago's museum's. The person who is reponsible for advertising the quality of the Field Museum isn't doing their job. Without question, this museum is one of the best kept secrets in the midwest.
yesterday today – The collections of the Field are simply inspiring. Of particular interest is the native american tepee and the wonderful, large totem poles. The pyrmid display is also awesome, right down to the real mummy.
Always interesting – I am always amazed at the Field Museum, they are constantly changing and updating exhibits. There are many programs for kids, and numerous items of historical importance. I was lucky enough to catch a performance of the Teens Together, music theatre workshop at the Field Museum, and was very impressed by the informative, entertaining, enjoyable performance by young teens. Very impressive. Visiting the Field Museum is like stepping back in time and reliving some of the most interesting times of our civili... read more
WOW, A Real Dinosaur – This place is Great! Got to go on Free Day and see everything. Loved the displays and the lay out. Will go back again and again. Nice kids area in the lower level. Everyone should make the trip to see SUE!
See Sue – I didn't see Sue yet, but I've heard great things. This is another great classic museum for me since childhood. Plan on being there all day to see stuff. The Shedd Aquarium is almost next door, see the dolphin show for an extra fee.
It's gigantic – There is a ton of stuff to see here and you really could spend the whole day without a problem. I do get a little irritated, though, with the additional charges for "special" exhibits such as Chocolate or Cleopatra. Having to shell out for two tickets is a little silly (and pricey). Parking is easy most of the time, thanks to the big Soldier Field parking lots. Or get the 146 bus and it drops you right in front.
Big pleasures – The Field Museum rocks--it is physically huge and packs an infotainment wallop. Sue, while impressive herself, is made even more interesting with a behind-the-scenes exhibit of facts, theories and restoration tidbits upstairs. You can literally get lost in a seemingly endless maze of display cases featuring almost thousands of animals (my boyfriend loved that the Field Museum has the lions that inspired the movie "The Ghost and the Darkness"). The museum's vast permanent collection spans the globe, from Asia ... read more
Spend a day ... or two – This museum is a great place to spend a day whether you're a kid or an adult. Tons of hands-on activities keep children interested and there's plenty to amuse and educate grown-ups, too. There's much more to this place than just dinosaurs and there's too much to see in just one trip.
