We needed to withdraw about $16,000 for an RV purchase from a private seller and the State Street branch told us we needed to make an appointment for that and we couldn't have an appointment for at least a week. Well, we need the money within 2 days. No can do, they said. I'm confused. It's our money and you're denying us access to it. $16,000 is nothing. Of course, we are going to lose out on the RV. It seems irrational to close savings accounts if the account maintenance fee deducted is sufficient to cover the costs to maintain the account. I have not ruled out spite, malice or “kicks” (small town nonsense) but another thought has occurred to me for the reason. The cost incurred of “sifting through” their accounts to make unwanted credit offers of various kinds. I received enough of them to make me believe that the account was active.
