It's ok. Based on what you can get in Bloomington for the same price, I have to give Uptown a lower score. For a place that doesn't offer walkthroughs before renting, they should especially warn people that the insulation is poor, making regulation of the temperature and humidity in the unit stable. You will also smell random aromas, oftentimes unpleasant, coming through the walls of apt from elsewhere (not sure if it's from the restaurants, gross neighbors, or the dumpsters outside). Convenient location next to several restaurants and a 5 minute walk to Sample Gates. Relatively cheap rent for the area. Most apartments have new appliances and cabinets/counters while retaining a classic Bloomington feel. No amenties aside from laundry machines on each floor. There is metered parking in the back and paid parking garages nearby. Management is very responsive and helpful. The building is pretty quiet aside from the usual downtown sounds outside and is secured at both entrances with a code.
The location of this apartment can't be beat, and our unit with a bay window is full of vintage charm that is hard to come by with other Bloomington rentals! Leasing staff is also very responsive to emails and phone calls.
The Uptown has the best location in town, conveniently situated near the bus terminal and within a walkable distance from campus. The one-bedroom apartment we rented is spacious, recently renovated, and all amenities are in perfect working order. It's worth noting that if you opt for a level 1 unit, be aware that it's a basement, and as a result, natural sunlight may be limited compared to units on higher floors.
