I was NEVER provided the benefits specifications and what my particular insurance covered vs not… I gave notice 6 WEEKS prior to going out on voluntary surgery that I would be… after many back and forth MEAN (the specialists speak down to you like you are scum of the earth just looking to rob from them) conversations with claims and appeals and finally supervisor, I was told that the “disability had to happen before they can request info from your Dr to determine “PRE-EXISTING”! The reviews speak for themselves. Unum is the worse disability insurance. They will blame everything on a pre-existing condition even if you dont have one. When they start asking you for the most obscure and irrelevant information just know you are going to get denied because they are trying to find the smallest reason to say it was pre-existing. Absolutely horrible. You won't be able to reach or speak to your case manager, and any reps you speak with outside of your case manager cannot help. Each request takes 5 business days for a response. They eat up your time trying to get the process going and approved so you can get paid. I've requested TWICE paperwork they are sending to my doctor for requests so I can ensure it's being filled out properly. Haven't received it. They do not work with you. This place is absolutely horrible, I pay my premiums every week and now when it's time for them to pay out they give you the hardest time !!!!! Just another horrible insurable company
Below average experience with Unum. They have long SLA’s to review documents. Their online portal does not reflect accurate status of claims (reflects you have pending items when you don’t, and the call center says it’s a known bug). The call center cannot tell you where your items are in the queue for review. The entire claim process is frustrating.
