I have been incredibly difficult to assist due to memory loss caused by PTSD (and being on unnecessary medications), but UNUM has been so helpful and patient with me. Every single person I've talked to has been AMAZING, kind, empathetic, and determined to assist me through what has been the most terrifying experience of my life. Having to take time off isn't something I've ever done, but UNUM has done everything they can to work with my employer and make sure I can still feed my family.
My husband is 87 years old. We have paid UNUM for years and years. He had an abdominal aortic aneurysm which was supposedly taken care of. Somehow the aorta (where the stent is) got fused with his intestine and he developed an infection in his blood. At 87 and on 24/7 oxygen therapy, as well as having CHF and only one kidney which already has Stage 3 kidney disease myself, I called UNUM for help. This place sucks. They don’t want to pay you for your leave. I gave birth to my son and hard a very hard time in the hospital. They didn’t pay me which made me drain my savings just to pay rent. 3 weeks into my leave they already cut my pay. So now I’m having a hard time putting food on my table for my family. They make it so much harder for moms.
Horrible organization!!! Champagne the case manager refuses to return anybody’s phone calls and will have an argument with you on the phone as well! Be prepared when dealing w this company. I recommend to have an attorney on standby
Unum does not like to pay their claims. I've filed an insurance commissioner complaint to resolve my issue. This should have been paid. Salmonella is a bacterial food poisoning and a covered accident with UHC and other supplemental Insurances. I purchased this policy because my group BCBS has a 10k ded for hospital confinment. I needed it incase I or my dependent had to be admitted. I also purchased an accident policy. My dependent was food poisoned from a restaurant that had 6 cases of Samanella that week, confirmed by DOH.... read more
