Ongoing billing issues as well. Our daughter h a disability and has secondary insurance. They have been unable to properly bill secondary insurance, so we have made the decision to just pay bills for $40 or less to value our own time and not be sent to collections, despite the fact that the Medical Group should be billing our secondary insurance and we should not be paying these. UNM has been the only institution unable to bill secondary insurance correctly and we have provided all the information multiple times.
See below. Very good summaries of my experiences as well. I can't understand how I can pay a co-pay and a coinsurance then still get multiple bills for months nickel and dimeing me even more costs. I can never get a hold of anyone for answers.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Just terrible system all around. Difficult to locate bills, nowhere to check what has and hasn't been paid, multiple bills come in at once - so it is confusing to know which is which and what needs to be paid, if you have questions regarding bills you will NEVER get answers. I have insurance and somehow simple 10-minute doctors' visits, after paying co-pays are between $100-300, not sure why. I have had ongoing billing issues since 2022. I ended up getting the New Mexico Attorney General's office involved last year and thought we had this resolved. I have received another bill this month for the same service dates that we had previously resolved. This is the worst billing department I have ever dealt with. Completely unacceptable. I have reached out to the New Mexico Attorney General's office yet again and I have filed a complaint with the BBB.
My experience is that they do listen and they do care. And they'll do their best to take care of you. But it does take patience. God only knows how many accounts they have. Personally, I think It's best to do so in person. Bring all pertinent documentation and above all be honest. It's a non profit institution and they're not out to bankrupt you. They're good people.
