Unbelievable experience!!! I am A Vietnam era veteran. I understand that people don’t serve you the way you served your country and it is a sad thing to say my experience while visiting the emergency room at 2 AM on August 25 was less than satisfactory from the security guard to the receptionist I felt less than a patient, And less than human. Never have I ever experienced a staff so set on separating a single mother from her kids in all my life in a Pediatrics ER. I had no vehicle and no convenient babysitter. My daughter needed treatment. It started when the social worker told me we couldn't stay in the room with my daughter overnight with my other kids. She told me this early in the day. We were patients for the Ped's side. We arrived after an awful experience at MJ with our 5 yr old with an "open wound fracture". Yes wait times were wait times. EVERY SINGLE HUMAN we interacted with (except the intake person, she started off very rude and flat but by the time we left her in about 3 minutes she was smiling and warm?) kind, didn't seem to be in a rush at all. I’ve been living in Charlottesville for the past 10 years, and I’ve always trusted UVA Hospital for medical care. But my recent experiences with the UVA Emergency Department have left me shocked and extremely disappointed. Last week, my daughter went to the UVA ER at 11:00 AM and wasn’t seen for nearly 6 hours.
