Having been to UCLH’s A & E several times now to accompany my 90 year-old mother, I can write with some experience that it has reached abysmal levels (last visit June 2025). With all due caveats that services are overstretched, it the normalisation of certain conditions and behaviours that is abhorrent. The Majors waiting room is absurdly small, the size you might expect in a small provincial hospital and not in London. I came here today in urgent need of support and psychiatric care, and the experience was shocking. There were no clear signs to the actual psychiatric ward, and I had to ask multiple times (at least five) before anyone even considered letting me speak to a psychiatrist. The nurses seemed more interested in socialising with each other than actually supporting patients in crisis. I waited over four hours and was never seen by a doctor.
