great for young travelers – love the Union Square Inn, I've stayed here a couple times & never been disappointed! The staff is really friendly & the rooms are kept very clean. Union Sq is in such a fun part of town, surrounded by restaurants and bars, and it's great for just walking around if you wanna get a taste of the city. The people at the reception desk are really helpful, plus they have free breakfast, yay! It's so nice to be able to save money on a hotel and spend it on actually doing things in NYC. I've spent a lot ... read more
Bed B*gs!!!!!!! DO NOT STAY!! – A friend of mine stayed at the hotel for a night before staying with me and when she left my apt 2 days later I found a bed b*g crawling across her pillow. We checked her suitcase and sure enough, another one. When she called the hotel they refunded her money. Good for her. Now it's only going to cost me 500 dollars to have my apartment treated for bed b*gs. DO NOT STAY HERE. You are better off sleeping on the stairs of some random building. Bed b*gs are awful and this place clearly knows they... read more
Beware! – I stayed at the Union Square Inn in mid March 2008 for four nights. The room appeared clean and had new wooden floors. The place is noisy, no elevator, and the shower is unpredictable. As prices of hotels in NYC are high now, it seemed like the price was right. Well, the cost of staying here ended up being higher than I thought! The day I checked out, I noticed welts on my face that I didn't connect with bites. A day following my return home, about a hundred very itchy welts, BB bites, emerged mostly on my upper bo... read more
Great stay in East Village – When in the City I always stay in midtown but on a visit this summer I wanted to be near friends in the Village so I decided to try the Union Square Inn. The location was perfect...close to subway, great restaurants and shops. The rooms are definitely VERY small but for the price and the location, it is a pleasant, convenient and safe place to stay. I am a woman and was travelling alone yet never felt uncomfortable. The real bonus though was the staff. They were friendly and helpful in everyway. ... read more
CHEAP, BUT DO-ABLE IN UNION SQUARE – Cozy it's not, but rooms and bathrooms are clean, if a bit cramped. Budget travelers and NYU friends and families will love the proximity to Union Square, and the 8th Avenue train is just outside the door. Complimentary breakfast means DIY bagels and coffee, but hey, what do you expect for less than $200 in New York? I'd stay there again if I was traveling alone. Oh, and there's no elevator, so ask for a room on the first or second floor if you have a lot of baggage.
A European boutique hotel at very nice prices. – The Scene Similar to its sister properties (Murray Hill Inn and Amsterdam Inn), this East Village hotel is clean, neat and reasonably priced. The location is best suited to budget travelers who are interested in the East Village bar and club scene. If you've come to New York for quiet nights or bird watching, you may want to check in elsewhere. The Details Despite the low rates, the rooms are equipped with enough amenities to keep most visitors satisfied. Cable TV and private ... read more
It's a hostel, not a hotel – Saw photos online, thought it would be decent, but no...
Great value – While the room was small(ish) and smelled of smoke a bit, I would return here. The value is excellent, the rooms are clean, the bathrooms are nice in size and cleanliness and the location is perfect. We did not specify a nonsmoking room so the odor was my fault...but a candle or incense or specifying nonsmoking would solve that one issue.
