UCI is a scam! Doctor Alan R. Schenk, MD is a rheumatologist there. Don’t work with him. He’ll charge you almost $1,000 after insurance for a 30 minute office visit. They even refused to do blood work on me, refused to treat me, and then had the audacity to ask months later if I wanted to schedule a follow-up visit???? For what??? UCI health is a complete scam. Never go there for any of your health needs.

OVERPRICED acupuncture. Do not come here. I made the mistake of choosing UCI Health for acupuncture because they are in-network with my insurance and close in proximity. I was told the initial consultation would cost $150, which is not uncommon for acupuncture visits. However, since I elected to use my in-network insurance benefit, they charged my insurance $621 for the one appointment!! Most people come here to see a naturopath because they want an opinion from a non-physician after being frustrated with the medical system. You will get generic diet advice from a naturopath here, then will bill you under the name of a physician (MD/DO) you have never seen! I was charged professional fees for a physician (MD/DO) who I never saw, I was seen by a naturopath. I contacted my insurance company, who asked them to recode it under the naturopath. UCI refused! One of the only DOs you can find that takes insurance! Dr. Hecht helped me with my chronic pain mentally and physically. I cannot recommend this place enough.
