Fried insects and flying machines invert nature at this Santa Monica Airport roost. – The Scene A lovely, open arc of a room is gussied up with reddish wood and orchids. Glass walls overlook little planes sallying back and forth on the intimate airstrip just below. Couples on dates swoon as planes take off and land against the setting sun, while largers groups share the family-style portions. The Food An eclectic, culinary tour of the Pacific Rim delivers tasty Asian tapas and savory entrees but what jumps out of the menu ri... read more

Not so great – Featuring pan-asian food from practically everywhere, one has to wonder with so much selection, how can they be good at them all? The answer is that they're not. I've been here a few times and much prefer the sushi place upstairs if I'm going to bother coming all the way out to an airport for food.

Great place to go with a big group – Beautiful restaurant and nice views of the airport and sunset. Went with a huge group so ordered tons of different dishes, almost all of them were excellent. Unfortunately no one but me was up for trying the insects, so I can't tell you how those dishes are. But I was very impressed with the quality of the food and will be back!

great nasi goreng – hard to believe a place that has great indonesian, thai, korean, and chinese food! We always get the mongolian beef with sesame buns and nasi goreng. plus they have nice wines by the glass and an amazing view of the santa monica airport. can get very crowded on weekends but if the bar stools in front of the kitchen are open, take 'em! You'll get to see an entire catfish battered and fried plus 5 woks going at once!

Nifty lunch spot – You can't beat the view. Admittedly, the view of the Santa Monica Airport was weird, but it was just one more mismatched piece sewn into this clever hodgepodge of a restaurant. Unfortunately, they were out of fresh crickets at lunch, so we started with ants on fried potato strips. They tasted, well, anty, with a dash of vinegar. Not much flavor, really, but they meant easily earned bragging rights. My main course was the Szechuan Scallops plate - a hearty serving of fresh scallops cooked in a savory sauce.... read more

Tasty and Inexpensive Don't be fooled by this restaurant's location at the Santa Monica Airport. The interior is sleek and the food high quality. Nor does the clientele consist primarily of pilots and other airport-related folks. The weekday lunchtime crowd is largely suited. The restaurant is small and aesthetically pleasing but noisy due to poor acoustic design (a concrete floor and large windows) and overlooks the airport runway. The planes themselves don't provide excess noise and are fun to watch.

nice service, good food – Food was good, make sure you get the bread rolls warm. Don't go if you don't like singing during dinner. I went with a group of girls and we had lots of fun. Two gals came unexpectedly and the restaurant was very accomodating about making room for them even though it was super-crowded Friday night.

Pure satisfaction! – I'll keep it short and sweet...Typhoon is far and away the best restaurant I have ever dined at! From the moment you walk in, till the time you leave, it is pure satisfaction. My girlfriend and I are now addicted to this place!!

Great for a gathering of friends – I stepped into Typhoon not knowing what to expect and a friendly server greeted me and asked if I had reservations. I didn't, and he invited us to sit at the bar while we waited. Ten minutes later, a nice atmosphere, comfortable chairs, and excellent food awaited us as we enjoyed the evening. Some details I noticed were that the wait service was a little slow at 9pm Friday night, and large groups of six to ten people or so were clustered around the restaurant. Definitely too loud for a quie... read more
