Gary is easy to talk to and a great listener when it comes to opening up about your personal life (struggles, stressors, relationships, etc.). His only downfall is he is too nice! As one of his patients, I felt that he did not understand the younger generation as well and tried to offer immediate solutions instead of diving more into what might be causing problems. My guess is his clinical training influenced his practice by going too much "by the book" instead of tailoring his sessions to the nuances of his patients' person... read more
If you want a professional that you can trust, one who is objective, but also empathic and will cut it to you straight, kindly - Gary is your go to. At least from my experience, Gary works magic. I’ve gotten more from my sessions with him than I have in years worth of therapy at the VA. He works with you as a human, not from a ‘clinical’ attitude. Gary was the first - and only - counselor I've visited. He's approachable, adaptable to your personality (I'm pretty sure the first thing I said to him at my first appointment after I introduced myself was "I swear more than a sailor" and he took it in stride and good-humor.), and was able to help me look at what hadn't worked from a new perspective which allowed those things to work.
