Been there a few times over the years and overall they were ok but snobby compared to other shops in Portland. Took my Nexus 8 Hub in for servicing because they are close to my house and I assumed had experience with alfine hubs. Left my bike for a week. Got on to ride it and had no gears. Noticed cable was completely loose and parts flopping around. Guess they never bothered to make sure it was working before they took my money and sent me out into the traffic. Took it back and the service manager Pete Zlatnik realized he h... read more
great service and awesome people! – I work just blocks from this place, so i visit regularly for my commuting needs. EVERY time i go in, i'm greeted with a smile and am given room to shop, which is great b/c i hate pesky sales people. if i have a question i can easily find someone to answer it. True, you may need to wait~ this place is busy, non-stop, and there's a reason for it. Good location, friendly people, good quality bike service, and great atmosphere. i recently took a bike in I was using for commuting to work, the g... read more
A rip-off – This is the worst business I've been to in Portland. I was there for a tune-up and for them to replace the cables and housings in my brakes, and to replace a flat tire. Not only was I charged twice for the cable and the tire, but they didn't even replace the rear brake cable. After noticing the overcharges, they couldn't even explain to me why I was charged so much from what was agreed. They did take off the overcharges, but I will still have to take my bike elsewhere to replace the rear brake. The only convenien... read more
absolute worst customer service – i've been in the downtown Portland shop 3 to 4 times within the past month looking to have a few simple questions answered. unfortunately the staff is too busy doing other things than to help a customer choose between two $4000 bikes. even trying to flag someone down to get the necessary help doesn't seem to work. after several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to take my business to river city bikes and ended up getting a sweet rig from a shop that was much more helpful and easier to deal wi... read more
Who you talk to – True, sometimes you get a bad apple, but others you get a really friendly and helpful employee who doesn't mind helping you make a $20 decision on some mundane bike park. I got a really sweet deal on a wheel set due to a sale, but you have to be careful. At least know that they have consistency and stock good stuff.
User review by yeababy – Sorry, but these people think that their stuff dont stink. Every time Ive walked into their store (any location) I have to wave someone down. They are so enthusiastic about their job and make me feel like Im an inconvenience. This is too bad. I grew up in the Portland area and there was a time when the Bike Gallery used to be THE place to buy a bike. My loyalty towards them has run dry.
Wonderful Store, great staff! – I've been to tons of shops from Durango to D.C., and find the Downtown Bike Gallery to be excellent. The staff was pretty nice and they seem to know their stuff. The store is clean and has good lighting. The selection in each catigory isn't over-the-top, but everythig they have is tried and true, and they have a little of everything. I would highly recomend this store, the service department is second to none, those guys rock.
Not the greatest. – This isn't the greatest shop around, personally I would look elsewhere, there are far better shops. Their shop that was on SAndy BLVD, was ok, always got friendly service, but their selection is lacking at EVERY one of their stores. They try to push a bike on you that you don't really want, because that is the brand they choose to carry 90% of on their floor, so you don't really get what you want and they are loathe to order anything you really want. I would definately find a better store, but their recum... read more
