We were in the area and craving Taiwanese food, so I was so excited to see there’s a Tofu King! I’ve been to the one in Irvine a few times, but this meal felt extra special. It’s a little hole in the wall spot run by some super sweet people. We ordered stinky tofu, fried pork chops, and beef noodle soup. It’s a solid Taiwanese spot that has all the staples — and the service is beyond friendly! Reminded me of my uncles ¨̮
The stinky tofu is still made with the old school method and it's so perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. The pickled cabbage is fantastic too. The cold noodles are refreshing, flavourful and full of veggies. The owner does not skimp on anything. The beef noodle soup is so rich and decadent without being heavy. The meat is tender, noodles bouncy and everything has incredible depth of flavour. Prices are affordable too but cash/zelle only. Do NOT sleep on this place!!
Tofu King is the real deal. If you know Taiwanese comfort food, you know how hard it is to find it done right outside of Taiwan and this place nails it. The stinky tofu is some of the best I’ve had in North America: crispy on the outside, perfectly fermented, served just the way it should be.
