On a referral I took my car to Tire Kingdom Golden Gate to have the Alternator replaced as the VW dealership said it was faulty and causing all the starting issues. Tire Kingdom's price was less than a third of the dealerships price for the same work. An hour or so after dropping the car off Tire Kingdom called me and said they tested the existing starter and battery and both were functioning properly and well within the recommended range.
