The quality and consistency of the customer service from TIAA phone agents is ALL OVER the place and it is disappointing. In the last several months, I have talked to several phone agents and some do not ask all of the verification questions, some agents inquire why a cash withdrawal is needed (this can be uncomfortable for a caller going through a hardship), some agents do not mention that withdrawals can be deducted proportionately. I am shocked by the lack of responsiveness of this office. Three years ago, I had an advisor who didn't show up for a phone appointment, nor did he respond to numerous messages. I was switched to someone else, and now the same thing is happening. I can't get a call back. My family has been working with TIAA for a couple of generations, and I always believed that TIAA cared about educators. Apparently not - at least at this office.

I've upped their review since I last wrote: Well I'm updating my review since the customer support team went out of the way to fix all the issues going on my my account. GaryS, a support representative contacted me and gave me his direct line to resolve the SSN issues, the beneficiary issues, the multiple accounts as well as my maiden name on the account. My entire interaction with Gary had been very prompt and he provided updates as soon as each fix was made. I only wished things had worked well from the beginning. ========... read more
