I had a deeply disappointing experience with Thrifty Car Rental at San Diego Airport. Upon arrival to collect my vehicle, I was informed at the front desk that I would be required to pay a deposit, despite my third-party rental contract clearly stating that no deposit was required. I also explained that my international insurance provided sufficient coverage. Landed in San Diego a bit before midnight. The line took a bit longer due to only having two people working at the desk. Though, the guy checking us in was super kind and even recommended some places to eat where we were staying. We received a Nissan Versa and were pleased with the state of the vehicle. The return process was also super easy. We took a video and pictures of the car and fuel gauges. No issues or extra charges, we paid less than $300/7 days, through my Union and it included the coverage! Would definitely rent ... read more

Booked a "Manager's Special" - Compact or larger Found out that this was an EV, which was unsuitable. Had to pay an extra $96 for a standard sedan. Filed a complaint. Was told I'd hear in 2-3 working days. 5 days later and no reponse. Reponse on here to go to a contact webpage is no use at all.

If you deal with Rudy at the counter don’t believe any words you hear. This guy is a straight liar. Nissan kick is a full size suv. Upgrade for free because they don’t have what I reserved. I told him I was using my insurance but was charged for theirs. Check your paperwork before you leave the counter, it could save you $750 Not a bad company except they know about this ongoing problem with their employee and don’t care to fix it. Everyone else there was great.

My troubles began in Phoenix. I arrived at the Camelback Road rental office after hours to find it closed. After calling customer service, I was assured my reservation would be held for 24 hours. The next morning, however, a very rude clerk told me my reservation had been canceled at the end of the previous day and no cars were available. I find it hard to believe a car that was on the lot when the office closed wasn't available the next morning when it reopened.
