On May 1, I went in for a consultation and paid $150 for a specimen collection kit. My procedure was then scheduled for May 15. However, on May 8, I was contacted and informed that my insurance would not cover the procedure and that the out-of-pocket cost would be $1,800—an amount I could not afford.
