If you are feeling nervous and don’t want to give birth in a hospital but are curious whether a birthing center might be right for you, let me gently reassure you that it absolutely can be. Especially this one. With my first baby, I chose a hospital birth largely because of outside pressure from family and friends. Deep down, I never felt fully comfortable there. As a first-time mom, I was unsure of what to expect and hesitant to go against the strong opinions around me. What my heart really wanted was a calm, cozy environme... read more
My growing family and I had such an amazing experience at The Starting Place. They made my birth experience empowering and less daunting because of how they thoroughly educate. The team is amazing and they truly listen. The timing of me going into the center to give birth was perfect. I’d do it again and again. I look forward to the next time!

These are the peop... read more
I paid $4,900 out of pocket to The Starting Place Birth and Wellness Center for midwifery care that, according to their own contract, included both routine and non-routine testing when medically indicated. Despite having low iron levels as early as 4 weeks pregnant, I was denied iron labs that I explicitly requested at 28 weeks — even after describing clear symptoms. When labs were finally run, my levels were critically low. I was officially risked out of care at exactly 36 weeks, which just so happens to be the point at whi... read more
