What an amazing experience. I walked in without checking the menu and simply asked the waiter to surprise me. The chef ended up preparing smaller portions of several of their signature dishes so I could experience a little bit of everything — basically letting the kitchen introduce itself. The Shoestring Cafe is truly a hidden gem in Richmond. I came here to try their 5‑course menu, and it’s genuinely great value for the food, quality, and service you’re getting. A few highlights for me: The bread with shrimp butter — the bread itself was excellent. The crab cake — full of crab meat and really well done.
