The Original Mine in Butte was owned and developed by William (Bill) Farlin, who discovered and located the claim in 1864. Farlin was one of Butte’s earliest prospectors and worked the mine initially for gold and silver, helping establish Butte as a viable mining district. In 1875, Farlin sold the Original Mine and several related claims to Charles D.
