I visited a few years ago to get a belly button piercing, but the piercer told me, “belly button piercings don’t really stay on skinny girls like you,” implying I was too thin to get one. I don’t recall their name, but the comment was discouraging and dismissive. I ended up getting a daith piercing instead, as I was there with friends—who, unlike me, weren’t deemed “too skinny” for a navel piercing. As someone who struggles with body image and weight, this experience was incredibly disheartening. I won’t ever be returning.
