I’ve never been accused of stealing in my life—until tonight at Home Depot. An employee approached me while I was scanning my items and implied that I was trying to steal. He prefaced it with, “I don’t want to be that guy, but…” Well, unfortunately, he was that guy. He stood over me watching me scan, offering no assistance—just suspicion. A better approach would’ve been to kindly offer help scanning, which would have preserved everyone’s dignity while still allowing him to do his job. But instead, he chose to accuse.
