The traffic was extremely heavy when I returned from my trip on Cape Cod. While the views were great, I’m only giving it a four-star rating because the traffic was a whopping 40 minutes long. This is not something you’d expect in Manhattan, but they could have done better by adding an extra lane or two to ensure that the traffic wouldn’t be so bad.
The High Bridge is a remarkable piece of New York City history. Opened in 1848 as the crossing point for the old Croton Aqueduct, it's the city's oldest standing bridge, predating the Brooklyn Bridge by decades. For generations the pipes carrying Croton water into Manhattan ran right beneath the walkway we strolled across, back when the span was known as the Aqueduct Bridge and drew crowds of sightseers the way the High Line does today.
