One of New York City's grandest bridges built as an aqueduct in 1848. Usage to deliver water to Manhattan ceased in 1949. It is now an amazing foot and bicycle bridge with fantastic views of the Harlem River and the city beyond. Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) used to walk across the High Bridge when it just opened as you can see at the Poe Cottage in the Bronx.
