My fence was less than 5 years old and it was disintegrating form rot, affecting both railing and palings. This was due to the wood not being pressure treated properly (under Australian Standards, treated fence wood should last a minimum 17-25 years). After many months of frustration, they finally agreed to replace the sections that were falling apart (about 6m of fencing), but refused to replace the mouldy palings/railings, even though they conceded that their suppler hadn't treated the wood properly!.
