I have never seen a more poorly run venue for basketball tournaments. Their security is inadequate. They check bags but do not have metal detectors. There was a huge fight on the basketball court with kids and coaches and parents. Tavares police had to be called. They make the players pour out their water bottles because there could be something other than water in there. Day Two at the Big House, another adult Fight during the tournament. We've not had a good experience at The Big House this weekend. The tournament was a mess, but that's not the venues fault. The other half was all venue related. Venue: The venue is not big enough for this size tournament. Just because you have courts, does not mean you have space. Limited seating around the courts and no place for teams to huddle. As the parent of an elite level athlete, I was extremely disappointed by The Big House’s food and beverage policies. Athletes were prohibited from bringing in their own water and healthy snacks, leaving them with no choice but to purchase overpriced concessions. For a venue that hosts youth sporting events, this policy is difficult to justify and feels like revenue is being prioritized over the health and well-being of the kids competing.
