We had the best time with Nic and his kids! The Dogstead is definitely a must do on your bucket list when visiting Alaska. He is a great guide in explaining all things mushing, engaging, great story teller and is a real hidden gem in Big Lake!
Nic Petit is excellent at what he does and we happily support his endeavor of winning the Iditerod. The winter dog sledding adventure around the lake really exceeded our expectations and we found Nic to be very inviting and knowledgeable from the type of dogs that work best for him, to their diet, to the different types of colored bands that you place underneath the skids for the different temperature gradients. Overall, a joyful experience and we would highly recommend it. Well worth the money! Well worth your time!
What a fun experience! There is no doubt that Nic loves what he does and enjoys sharing his dogs and love of mushing with others. We had just as much fun learning about dog racing as we did going for the sled ride! We also had good conversation with his helper, Lew. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to experience dog sledding while in AK!
Me and my family came by today and we had a blast! We got to see nicks (the owner and proprietor) awards, which were awesome! He was a fun and good spirited guy. If you want to go mushing go here! I feel like no other place could compare. also really great pictures. A real authentic alaskan experience we will never forget.
