My experience with Shay was incredibly disappointing. She giggled multiple times as I was crying, and her tone and body language made me feel like I was annoying her for even being there. The session felt careless and unprofessional, as if no real effort was being made. Low-cost counselling should still offer basic empathy and competence. If you’re looking for real support, I recommend choosing a different centre with qualified, experienced counsellors.
This place has a generally institutional atmosphere. When a client puts their trust in one of the interns, the interns can make mistakes because of inexperience or just plain poor judgement. And who pays for their mistakes? The patient. And when there is a poor fit between the client and the intern, the result can be more harmful than beneficial. And if the therapy is not working, the client generally takes the blame.
The Adler Centre offers an amazing training experience for Graduate Counselling students completing their Masters degrees, while also providing valuable low-cost mental health counselling services to the community. Intern Counsellors receive a supported, thorough training experience to ensure they're offering ethical, competent care to their clients.
