Impossible to make an appointment over the phone since it doesn't let you speak with a real person. The bot says it will text you to set up an appointment which it never does.

Husband & I were in a bind, have just returned to the country after a two + year tour (military). Coming back both our licenses, his about to expire, mine done expired. New Braunfels site, was not accepting walk-in, their website appointment not available til July. Husband drove us here and this DMV staff was courteous, went above and beyond and made things easy(happen)for us.

This review applies to those who already have a Texas driver's license (renewal) and have not been cleared with Real ID. However, in all cases you must schedule an appointment online. You cannot walk in. I was told by one of the Texas DL employees that at 9:30am every day they do post any cancellations that may have come up. Most importantly, you must have a non-expired passport or an original birth certificate. A Xerox copy of your hospital birth will not suffice.
