this is still the best sushi experience in nyc in my opinion. About as close as it gets to Tokyo. The price is pretty reasonable. The fish is always extremely fresh and they always have a few interesting varieties that I haven't tasted before. The rice is a perfect temperature which is a major part of how good sushi is. Service has always been good for me here. it's BYOB so don't forget to bring a bottle of something.
It's all about the food. The flavors are extraordinary, while the digs are spartan. BYOS (bring your own sake). Very friendly service. Not cheap, though definitely less expensive than fancier omakase restaurants. Again, the focus is on the food. You can order a la carte pieces after the set menu.
I Dream of...Tanoshi♡ Returned last night (after our first visit 4 years ago) and was still blown away by quality and flavors of each piece. I didnt want the meal to end! BYOB and minimal decor really makes this such a NYC best kept secret (altho NOT that secret bc res can be hard to get!) Yes, we trekked from deep Brooklyn to far Upper East Side just for this meal!
