Good food. Small portions. Bad service – I ordered Vegetable Udon. The waitress returned with Tempura Udon. I told her that I had ordered Vegetable Udon. She took back the shrimp tempura and returned with more vegetable tempura. I firmly told her again that I had ordered Vegetable Udon. I told her some of the ingredients that should have been in the Udon. She told me that the tempura was gratis. I told her that I should have tofu with my order. She came back with a very small portion of tofu that wouldn?t have made an infant... read more
Holub and Co. – I was brought into Taka's Sushi by a good friend who told me that this was a great place to have Sushi. Well, am sort of picky and thought there is no way they are going to out do Ichi Maki or some of the many other restaurants that I frequented for my Sushi fix. I was so wrong; this is the best Sushi in town. The staff at the bar makes your experience one that you feel like you?re at the "Cheers" bar and everybody knows your name. I have a favorite roll "Kohaku" and I always ask for it my way, which is extra... read more
Taka's Fulfills the Stereotype of Shopping Center Dining – I love Japanese food. I mean REALLY love Japanese food but this stuff was awful. Not being a huge sushi fan in particular, I have a unique perspective in that I tend to not fall for the gimmick of veiling bad Japanese cuisine with gimmicky sushi. The wait was long on a pretty slow weekday night, the servers took forever, and subsequently, the "happy hour" menu we were given was not the pricing we received by the time the bill came around (Of course it was after 6 by ... read more
Happy hour a must – If I am in Fair Oaks 3-6 in the afternooon I am most likely at Taka's Sushi. I'll just give you a rundown of my normal experience at Taka's sushi. I arrive at 3 to 3:30 and proceed to order a $1.50 draft beer and some BBQ Salmon for around 4$. I then ask for the Sushi Chef named Kenn to make a customroll for me which has never dissapointed. I then order 2 more beers get some more grilled salmon. After I recover a little I order 2 bottles of happy hour priced draft Sake and a Ziggy hand roll. The Ziggy han... read more
Worst dining experience I have ever had because of Taka himself – I have eaten at Taka's many times before over the past 6 years and have even attended several of his specialty dinners. While at times the service can be a bit slow the food has always been very tasty until today, My daughter and I stopped mid afternoon for a late lunch. We ordered sashimi and sushi. When it arrived it was arranged nicely, but the smell that came from each of our plates screamed spoiled fish. It appeared to be coming from the tuna so we flagge... read more
Good Sushi, Uninterested Chef(s) – We ate here a couple of months ago. The menu was sufficient for sushi lovers but not extensive but that's okay since too much doesn't necessarily mean quality ingredients or recipes. The rolls were good, fresh tasting, and well made. The chef, however, was a dud. He made good rolls but that seemed to be the limit of his talent. We asked about his ingredients, showed interest in his work. He gave us one word responses, no smiles, but talked fervently with a co-worker about something to do wi... read more
Average sushi bar, I've had better – Food is so-so, you are paying for the atmosphere mostly, and the sushi menu is rather small. My favorite thing about it? Umm going home. Go to Silver Sake instead. Better menu, better food, better price, better people! They are on Marconi and Walnut!
Great atmosphere and food. – If you like to hang out and drink beer while letting the sushi chef come up with his own creations, then this is the place to go. Pleasant atmosphere along with great people to talk to around the sushi bar. Always a blast to go to.
Great for your dollar – If you dine between 4-6pm, you can sample different types of sushi rolls for a reasonable price. We had two types of sushi rolls, appetizer(calamari),miso soup, two entrees, dessert, and drinks for all under $45, including tip. I will definately dine here again.
