Sugar Bowl Sugar bowl is one of the oldest resorts. They don't always groom, and sometimes it's hard to figure out how to get to certain areas within the resort, but it's still pretty nice. It's cheaper then some other ski resorts, and when the conditions are good it's a really great place to ski or snowboard. It's a good family resort and usually isn't too overcrowded.
Close to the bay area Sugar Bowl is close enough to the San Francisco bay area that you can easily do a day trip. There are plenty of beginner level ski runs to practice on if you're new to the sport.
