I can't speak highly enough of the staff and the treatment I have received in my 5 week stay in the SACU. I have been receiving physio to rebuild the muscles in my legs and bum to enable me to walk again after having 8 weeks on my back with no exercise at all. I am amazed at the muscle wastage from that inactivity. So far I have had 13 weeks in both the University Hospital and the SACU, and I have been treated with both respect and kindness from ALL of the staff in both places.
When the local nurses even advise not to go there, you know it is not good. My partner was transferred there and it was 26hrs before even a doctor made themselves known. The care was pitiful and the whole place was depressing to say the least. Staff were rude and the doctors were even worse with one being very obstructive and unhelpful. There needs to be a person in charge that patients/family can go to when they have concerns about patient care.
