the only 501(c)(3) in NM helping the companion animals of the homeless! Their work is vital, sincere, compassionate, and effective helping those on the street living with their companion animals. They are the best! There is much misinformation in some of these reviews! SHAP does not give out dogs or puppies. I've read enough, seen photos and videos, seen myself animals confined to narrow medians on busy streets left in the sun and heat while their "owners" rest in the shade. SHAP does not protect dogs from abuse, in fact, returns dogs to abusive situations. Give your money to any of the many programs other than SHAP that help homeless people, or give your money to animal rescues.

Y'all might notice a surge in negative reviews because a bunch of people got butt-hurt over SHAP assisting a dog to reunite with their owner. They like to claim SHAP gives dogs to homeless people but it has never once happened. They assist people who already have animals who are already homeless so the dogs can get proper care and nutrition. All the hate is really disappointing. Love this organization.
