Good for special Occasion – I have eaten there more than a few times over the years. Consistantly good food and service specializing in fish dishes. Ambience good too but quite noisy and tables are close together. Not many sound absorbant materials in main restaurant room. Interesting looking at the kitchens thru glass walls. Do recommend it highly, but for a quiet subdued romantic evening it has its shortcommings.
One of Portland's Best – We've been stopping here for years on trips between our NJ and Maine homes because the all- seafood menu is consistently great (sister restaurant Fore Street serves meats in addition). I believe a certain amount of seats are set aside for walk-ins, but getting a reservation is best, even on week nights in 'off-season.'
Worth a trip – Being that I don't live in Maine, I have traveled from New York on serveal occasions just to eat at Street & Co. I hate clams but I eat their clam appitizer like I'm going to the electric chair. The blackend halibut tastes like a perfect steak. Great bread and butter too.
