The minute I first stepped inside the shop in 1997, I knew Linda and I could live well in Alameda. (Our other requirement was a good Episcopal church.) Lugged steel bikes in glorious colors from every era, Brooks leather saddles, expert fitting and mechanical service, and all kinds of old parts for our 1970s-era Peugeot mixte bikes meant we could have a happy life on the island. Thank goodness that the shop will remain open and continue following Dennis' death at age 75. I cannot think of a finer legacy...
