Do solid surface countertops require special cleaning solvents? If you guessed no, you're right. Unlike specialty stone products like marble, solid surface materials are easy care. They can usually be cleaned with a mild detergent or even just a damp cloth.

If you have children, then you know how rough they can be on your house and your furniture, and that includes your kitchen. Fortunately, granite countertops are extremely durable, so they can handle things like your kids putting hot pans on them.

It’s important to remember that natural stone surfaces like granite can be extremely porous, making it incredibly difficult to rid them of all bacteria and food particles before you start meal prep. Let’s talk about easier-to-sanitize countertop options that could be right for your home.

When you are sealing or re-sealing your granite countertops, remember that you need to spray the sealant over the entire surface for it to work properly. Cover every square inch of your granite, and use a spray bottle for the best results. Never wipe sealant into your granite using a cloth, as the cloth will absorb most of it.

Care to guess the typical thickness of a solid surface countertop? If you guessed a half-inch or so, you're right. This helps keep the weight down, making it somewhat easier to install than a visually comparable product using quarried stone.

Granite is usually mined in quarries. Diamonds are used to cut the granite because it is the only stone hard enough to cut through it. It is then cut down into useable sizes using wire saws.

Did you know that solid surface countertops can be manufactured with fabrication options? This means that they can be custom made with features like inlaid trivets for hot pans, drain boards for dishes, and limitless integral design patterns.

Part of the beauty of granite is the various minerals that it is composed of and it’s variation in color, texture, spotting, veining and cracking. Granite is nature’s creation and these characteristics are expected as they provide a unique, natural beauty.

Did you know that solid surface countertops have been around for almost fifty years? The idea behind the solid surface countertop was to have a surface that had the appearance of natural stone but, unlike granite and other surfaces, was nonporous.
